Structural violence refers to a form of violence that is not directly visible like physical harm but is deeply embedded in the social, political, and economic systems of society. It arises when institutions and structures create inequalities that prevent people from meeting their basic needs or achieving their full potential. For example, poverty, discrimination, caste-based exclusion, gender inequality, and lack of access to healthcare or education are manifestations of structural violence. Unlike direct violence, which involves clear perpetrators, structural violence is often normalized and hidden in everyday life, making it more difficult to challenge. It silently harms individuals and communities over time by denying them opportunities, dignity, and justice. Therefore, structural violence highlights how social arrangements can perpetuate suffering and inequality without overt aggression.

संरचनात्मक हिंसा उस प्रकार की हिंसा है जो प्रत्यक्ष रूप से दिखाई नहीं देती, बल्कि समाज की सामाजिक, राजनीतिक और आर्थिक व्यवस्थाओं में गहराई से समाई होती है। यह तब उत्पन्न होती है जब संस्थाएँ और संरचनाएँ असमानताएँ पैदा करती हैं, जिसके कारण लोग अपनी बुनियादी आवश्यकताओं को पूरा नहीं कर पाते या अपनी पूरी क्षमता तक नहीं पहुँच पाते। उदाहरण के लिए गरीबी, भेदभाव, जातिगत बहिष्कार, लैंगिक असमानता, तथा स्वास्थ्य या शिक्षा की सुविधाओं से वंचित होना संरचनात्मक हिंसा के रूप हैं। प्रत्यक्ष हिंसा के विपरीत इसमें कोई स्पष्ट अपराधी नहीं होता, बल्कि यह सामान्य जीवन का हिस्सा बन जाती है और आसानी से पहचानी नहीं जाती। यह धीरे-धीरे व्यक्तियों और समुदायों को अवसर, गरिमा और न्याय से वंचित करके उन्हें नुकसान पहुँचाती है। इस प्रकार संरचनात्मक हिंसा यह दिखाती है कि किस प्रकार सामाजिक व्यवस्थाएँ बिना सीधे आक्रमण के भी पीड़ा और असमानता को बनाए रखती हैं।
